7 Days Uganda Chimpanzee and Birding Safari

Day 1:  Transfer to Murchison Falls from Kampala

Your driver who will double as your guide from Travel Gorge Tours will pick you up from your hotel after having your breakfast and you will then proceed to Murchison falls park driving through the Luwero triangle where you will see several customary homesteads. On the way, you will have your lunch at Masindi and then continue to access the park via Kichombanyobo gate. As you approach the summit of Murchison falls, you will carry out a game drive for a short time. These falls are the most remarkable in the area. Bat Hawk, white-crested Turaco, Pel’s fishing owl, the Red-winged Pitilia as well as the Rock Pratincole are a few of the species we look forward to seeing here plus a wide range of flora and fauna. We then continue and clock in at service of Fort Murchison for a night in plus dinner.

Day 2:  Bird watching and Launch cruise in Murchison falls NP

The Northern sector of the park is where you will begin birding and game driving today, throughout the entire morning following a nice breakfast back at the lodge. The Abyssinian Ground-hornbill, Woodchat Shrike, Red-necked Falcon, Pel’s Fishing Owl, Foxy Cisticola, Black-bellied and Denham’s Bustard, Red-winged Grey Warbler, the uncommon Shoebill stork, Beautiful Sunbird,  Red-throated Bee-eater, African Quail-finch,  Black-billed Barbet, White-tailed Lark, Swallow-tailed, Harlequin Quail, Common Button-quail, Northern Camine to mention but a few are some of the favorites we are await to encounter. Various animals like Elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, Oribis, Jackson’s Hartebeest are species we look forward to seeing.

Head back to the lodge, have an afternoon hot lunch, have a short break to relax and then proceed for a launch cruise on the river Nile to the bottom of the Murchison falls. From close range, you will have a chance of seeing crocodiles, large schools of hippos, aquatic birds, on the River Nile banks plus the amazing Murchison falls. We head back for dinner plus an overnight at the lodge.

Day 3:  Transfer to Budongo forest & Kaniyo Pabidi

We shift to Budongo forest after breakfast for an entire day of forest birding at Kaniyo Pabidi with lunch that is packed. We hope to see birds such as the Crowned Eagle, Yellow Longbill, Puvel’s Illadopsis, Grey Longbill, Fire Crested Alethe, Forest Francolin, Lemon-Bellied Crombec, Jameson’s Wattle-eye, Rofous Crowned Eremomela, Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, Ituri Batis, Rufous-crowned Eremomela, Yellow Spotted Barbet, Spotted Greenbul, Slender-billed Green Bull, Cameroon Sombre Green Bull, Red tailed Ant-thrush, African Pygmy Kingfisher, Yellow-billed Barbet, Dusky Long-tailed Cuckoo, Yello-spotted Barbet, Fairy-breasted Barbet, African Pied Hornbill, African Dwarf Kingfisher, White-thighed Hornbill, Chocolate-Backed Kingfisher, Brown-backed Scrub-robin, Black-Bellied Fire Finch, Black Bishop and the Brown Twinspot.

Day 4:  Transfer from Murchison Falls Park to Kibale National Park

After breakfast, Kibale National park will be your next destination with lunch on the way plus stopovers along the way at a few sites for bird watching. In the afternoon we reach Kibale and check-in in your accommodation where you will dine and have the overnight rest

Day 5:  Chimpanzee tracking, explore Bigodi wetland sanctuary

We go to the forest for chimpanzee tracking after a very early breakfast. as you search through the forest for these amzing apes, you willencounter several other primates and birds such as: Shining-blue Kingfisher, Nahan’s Francolin, White-spotted  Flufftail, Blue-breasted Kingfisher, White-napped Pigeon, Black Bee-eater, Afep Pigeon, Green-breasted Pitta, Olive Long-tailed Cuckoo, African Pitta, Narina Trogon, Abyssinian Ground-thrus, Black and White Mabnikin, Grey-throated Flycatcher, Green-backed Twinspot, White-bellied Crested Flycatcher as well as  Scaly Francolin, among others.

You go back for lunch at the lodge and then proceed for more bird watching in the Bigodi Wetland sanctuary in the late afternoon. The Great-blue Turaco, Lesser Honeyguide, White-spotted Flufftail, Wilcocks Honeyguide, Blue Headed Coucal, Joyful Greenbul, Purple-headed Starling and Cabanis’s Greenbul are a few of the favorites expected to be sighted.

Day 6:  transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP, afternoon Launch cruise                                   

You will then advance to Queen Elizabeth National park after leisurely taking your breakfast. You will have a short game drive along the base of the Rwenzori Mountain and after check-in at accommodation where you will take your lunch. in the afternoon, head out to the Kazinga channel is where you will have a launch cruise. You will see a number of buffaloes, crocodiles, elephants, water bird species, herds of hippos and many more.

Later return for dinner and over night at your accommodation

Day 7:  Game drive and Birding, Departure – End of Safari

This is the final day of our safari. After a nice breakfast, check out of your accommodation and head out for a game drive in the plains of Kasenyi searching for animals as well as birds such as Montagu’s Harrier, Terminicks Couser, the Green-winged Pytilia, Pallid, Collared Pratincole and many others. We pass by the Igongo Cultural center, Mbarara for lunch on our way back to Kampala. The driver guide will drop you at a hotel of your choice in Kampala or transfer you to the Entebbe airport where you will catch your return flight home.
